Zanzibar Safari Club is a magical
beachfront resort, situated on the picturesque East
Coast of Zanzibar, in the Uroa area. It is
approximately 35km (40 minutes) from Stone Town and
easily reached by road. The Club is situated amidst a
6 acre tropical garden and prides itself in its
beautiful location, once described by David
Livingstone as ‘paradise’ (and it’s easy to see why).
Our first encounter with Zanzibar Safari Club was when
we approached its colourful gates. The staff informed
us that the gates’ name was Marhaba – meaning
‘welcome’.
The buildings are surrounded by lush groves of mature
palm trees, making for a real idyllic island setting.
Indoors you’ll find a select assortment of antique
furniture combined with the modern amenities you’d
expect from a top-class hotel. The Club is a truly
Zanzibarian retreat – laid back, friendly and
reminiscent of times gone by. The architecture and
atmosphere illustrate a fusion of African, Indian and
Arabic styles – as do the delicious food on offer at
the Club’s restaurants. The Club is an adult-only
hotel – making for an ideal distraction-free holiday
retreat.
Zanzibar Safari Club offers something for everyone –
whether you’re after a fun-filled action packed
holiday snorkelling, playing beach
games and visiting the nearby sights or simply
interested in recharging your batteries while lounging
in the sun, having a relaxing massage or reading a
good book – the Club won’t disappoint.
Some of the adventurous activities on offer at the
resort include tours to Jozani, Stone Town, Changuu,
Kizimkazi and the popular Spice Island Tour. Each has
its own attraction, and we recommend that you go on at
least one of these if you’re interested in the local
culture and heritage of Zanzibar. And if that’s not
enough culture for you - we even found a guy who’ll
teach you to speak Kiswahili.
There’s
also a really cool jetty-discothèque, out in the ocean
where you can spend a great night out dancing and
enjoying the cool sea breeze.
The staff are skilled in massage, hair plaiting and
even henna body painting. So not only will you feel
revived, but you’ll also look like an island beauty
when they’re done with you (don’t worry – everything
is voluntary!).
The hotel successfully combines international levels
of hospitality with the local lifestyle of the island,
and what you end up with is true Zanzibarian warmth.
Come enjoy this silver-sand haven – we highly
recommend it!
The Zanzibar Safari Club is a superb 3
star hotel with elegantly decorated rooms reminiscent
of times gone-by. The rooms have a selection of
traditional hand-carved Arabian furniture including
pretty Swahili beds with draped mosquito nets. The
hotel has 50 air-conditioned rooms, equipped with
private balconies, en-suite bathrooms with showers (no
baths), hair dryers, mozzie nets, fridges, safe boxes
and satellite TV. The beds are decorated in white
linen with colourful pillows and fresh flowers - very
inviting. 48 of the rooms are Deluxe Rooms while the
remaining 2 are Suites.
The rooms are situated in free-standing, chalets
surrounded by the hotel’s beautiful landscaped
gardens. Some of the chalets have a sea view while the
remainder look out over the lush vegetation. These
chalets have spacious verandas with antique-style sofa
beds for lounging about and taking in the view.

Zanzibar Safari Club has 2 restaurants and two
bars.
The Mwangaza Restaurant is an elegant
Arabian-inspired restaurant serving
international cuisine with a fusion of local
dishes.
The Ocean View Restaurant serves good Swahili
fare, including grilled seafood and meats. They
use only the freshest fruit, vegetables, fish,
seafood and meat, complemented by the island’s
great variety of spices. They serve breakfast,
lunch and dinner plus excellent light snacks.
Both restaurants are open all day and offer
good, discreet service.
If you’re after a well-deserved sundowner, a fun
cocktail or simply just a cool drink after a hot
day, the experienced barmen at the hotel’s two
bars won’t disappoint. The Moonlight Bar is
situated on the beachfront and offers great
views of the ocean, while its sister-bar, the
Mashala Bar overlooks the main feature of the
hotel – the picturesque swimming pool.
