Originally the St Mary's School for Freed Slave Girls,
it was built in 1871 by the UMCA. Universities Mission
to Central Africa (UMCA) was established by David
Livingston and members from four other universities in
England, in an attempt to educate freed slaves. Mbweni
Ruins Hotel now runs the place.
